I have been an advocate for animals my entire life. My path was launched as a child on a horse farm, and I had several relatives who had farms of other sorts; needless to say, I was never short of companions - the furred and feathered kind - and grew up with the knowledge that animals, like humans, are individuals, each with his or her own personality.
I have translated this love into rehabilitating and providing long-term care for Class III wildlife in the state of Florida. We have also provided a home for several "rescue" animals. These are our babies; these are our family.
At this stage in my life, I have discovered some hard truths about myself. Amongst these is the fact that I've little use for people who do not share my love for creatures of the animal kingdom. Consequently, I have a close-knit group of friends, whom I collectively call the "Sqwirl Moms" but who also pursue their own endeavors with other varieties of the finned, feathered and furred. We all follow distinctly different professional paths, but the path of animal care is the common, sound denominator.
I first met Brandy Stark in a client/professional capacity when we realized the spirit contact at our previous home may well have been becoming hostile. In a state of embarrassed desperation, we made the call to SPIRITS. We were met with calm reassurance and immediate response. The care and concern for the members of our household was not at all what we had anticipated, but we were grateful... and it opened the door for more personal conversations.
In no time at all I had discovered that Brandy, too, was a strong advocate for animals, including pug rescue. It was not long before our family got to meet the top dog of her pug family. By this time we had an established relationship with the SPIRITS and because our home could be relied on to produce some sort of activity, we had become a bit of a training ground.
Not only were potential SPIRITS team members brought in, but in the natural course of conversation Brandy and I had decided to have one of her pugs come along with the group to see if he would sense any activity. Certainly our own furry family members had reacted to various paranormal activity in the home, and while nothing had seemed frightening, it had certainly sparked their interests. It only seemed natural to open our home to a little guy who might well validate what the rest of us were seeing.
I have never in my life seen such a well-loved dog. His mama is sensitive to his every need, and can detect the slightest change in his behavior. When he arrived, he was shown the "guest water bowl" and "facilities." Being the well-mannered little man he is, he was the perfect guest, and responded immediately to every statement or request his mama made. He also took each opportunity for affection.
The bond between "mama and son" was clearly apparent, and our home has always been set up to accommodate the non-two legged residents - and visitors. Our fur-children certainly sense the parents comfort levels, and it results in very calm meets-and-greets between guest fur babies and resident fur babies.
It is with no hesitation that were we ever to need another fur-parent to come in and care for our furry family should we be away, I would request Brandy to do so. Her almost psychic sensitivity to the needs and emotional states of animals gives her a level of credibility in animal husbandry I find most admirable.
Brandy is not just an individual caretaker, but an active part of many teams that look out for the welfare of same. A more responsible pet-parent would be hard to find.
Are we partial? Perhaps. But I feel we are also eminently qualified to make this assessment.
